Cooking Sauces

This month's feature is somewhat different as it highlights some of the wonderful prepared sauces that are available on the market today. In reality prepared foods are very much a part of our culture, with schedules that make it next to impossible to manage it all. The truth is the average home cook either does not have the time, nor desire to make sauces from scratch. Everyone desires meals that are flavorful, otherwise, why bother eating.

In order to help you to eat not only what is flavorful, but also what is good, I did some research to find the best off-the-shelf sauces for meats and vegetables in order to help you with putting good food on the table. Keep in mind that the ultimate is always to go fresh, but in a pinch, these are my good picks. If you have trouble finding any of these brands in your local markets, I have found that many store managers are willing to bring them in for a try, so don't be shy about asking. If you decide to do a little research on your own, be sure to read the labels and try to stay away from those containing mono sodium glutamate as these can cause allergic reactions in some people. Also, you can always do a dress up of a store bought sauce by adding fresh ingredients to the mix. How good is that...
