Garden Plot

For all you budding gardeners out there who missed the home and garden shows during the first couple of months of the year, there is still time to catch what is now the latter half of the gardening tours. Many of the larger shows that are typically held at convention centers are winding down, but you can still catch up on what’s new in the world of gardening by visiting your larger garden centers and nurseries. There are usually announcements of events and classes for those of you who wish to increase your knowledge so be sure to check your local events calendar.

Here are a few tips to help make your visit delightful:

  1. Take along a pad and pen to jot down notes.
  2. Ask questions.
  3. Many garden centers will test your soil to measure PH levels. You can also purchase a small kit testing kit if you would like to test your own.
  4. Take along a camera to photograph plants or flowers that you might want to consider.
  5. Sign up for workshops; most garden centers will host a number of workshops over the course of the season so be sure to take advantage of them.
  6. If you have plants or shrubbery that is looking a bit worn, ask advice on how you might be able to bring them back to a healthy state.
  7. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing as many of the larger centers are a few acres.

Enjoy!
